Excited about the update, Tim!
Does ” updated single image size to same aspect as slider” mean that once the thumb rebuilder is run, you can set a thumb in WP mdeai library and that is what will display in the post/page teaser widget if image is enabled? Here’s hoping!

No the widget size in Xi is square, the slider is rectangular. They will never crop the same. Though you could tweak the widget size in functions.php.
If you edit the image with WP’s image editor, then all images will take their crop from the edited version of the image. You choose to apply this edit to just the default thumbnail, but the theme does nto use this as the size of this can be adjusted in settings and would therefore be an unreliable image for the theme to use.
What I mean is that the image created for the slider is the same aspect ratio as the single post image (if enabled), which I had noticed wasn’t.
If you are using the same image for a slider, a single post image and want it in a square widget as well, then WP just can’t make them all individually croppable. It is beyond WP and I think it would even be beyond timthumb, a method other themes, and my older themes use to create thumbs on the fly.
