We’re new at this – just developed a website with this template…to see that a week later there is this new update…if we update, does it override all the work we did – or how do we upgrade?

It will not override – do you have custom CSS? If you use a FTP client, just copy the contents into the corresponding Theme folder on your website. You can tell which it is as most of the files and directories will be the same. Does that make sense? Or – if you installed the theme through WP proper, I believe you just repeat the process. If you are using the WP method, apparently you must delete it first: http://themeloom.com/support/framework-codex/installing-your-theme/

If you are customising the theme by editign theme files then yes you will loose yoru edits.

It is recommended (and not just by us!) that all WordPress theme customisation should be done in child them to avoid problems when a theme gets updated. See http://themeloom.com/support/framework-codex/developers/

If you have only made chanegs in theme options (including custom css), then your settigns will survive the upgrade.
