I just purchased the Pure theme because I liked the Demo look.
I got the theme already but need advice on how to :
1. create slider with pictures that appear in the header.
2. make posts appear with pictures
3. how to create an Events post type
4. create a footer like the demoNovember 12, 2011 at 11:33 am #2080
1. Create some “features” and add your images as feature images. (http://themeloom.com/support/framework-codex/feature-sliders/)
2. Create posts with feature images and use the ThemeLoom Show Posts or Show Pages widget in any of the homepage widget areas.
To add feature images (standard WP feature) see http://themeloom.com/support/framework-codex/post-pages-images-and-thumbnails/
3. Create and Event (Dashboard under Posts). See http://themeloom.com/support/framework-codex/using-the-event-manager-post-type/
We are using the ThemeLoom Show Events widget on the homepage.
4. The demo footer simply uses the standard WordPress Custom Menu Widget. First create 5 menus in the menu builder (Appearance-menus). Then Use custom Menu Widget in footer area 5 times to add each menu. We have also added icons to our last menu (see http://themeloom.com/support/framework-codex/setting-up-menus/).
Also see http://themeloom.com/support/theme-docs/pure-user-guide/ where there is a picture of how we built the demo.November 14, 2011 at 3:29 am #2091
I added a Feature type post and set featured image (from URL), insterted into post (http://wpstage.standrewschurch.org.my/?feature=test) but there is still no slider at http://wpstage.standrewschurch.org.my.November 14, 2011 at 8:22 am #2093
Are you sure you set this image as a “feature image”? Images just inserted into post – that isn’t a feature image.
WordPress feature image box is bottom right of sidebar in post editor. See http://themeloom.com/support/framework-codex/post-pages-images-and-thumbnails/
The slider works with features or posts (you select which in theme options).
If you have a feature or posts with a proper WordPress feature image, then check that slider is not disabled in theme options.November 14, 2011 at 8:52 am #2095
Yep, I used the “Set featured image ” … (From URL option) as per http://themeloom.com/support/framework-codex/post-pages-images-and-thumbnails/.November 14, 2011 at 10:37 am #2096
OK, then that isn’t a featured image. Perhaps WordPress misleads you here a little, but you can only use images you have uploaded to your WordPress media library as featured images.
While you can insert external url images into a post, they cannot be used as featured images. The option “Use as featured image” only appears under images you have in your media library/gallery (i.e. images you have uploaded to your site).
You should see that even though you have inserted the image from a url into your posts – the featured image box still remains empty with a prompt to “set featured image”.
Upload an image from your computer and then click “Use as featured image”.
Once you have set a featured image, the featured image will show in this space.November 15, 2011 at 12:42 am #2097
I think I get the workflow.
Insert picture, so that it’s included in media library.
Then Show the picture and click on Set as Featured Image.
As time grows, the number of Features will grow. Will only the last 5 appear in the slider ?
What if I only want to exclude 1 of them, because it is not relevant anymore ?
How do I set some feature as relevant and to be included in the slider and others as not relevant after say an expiry date ?November 15, 2011 at 12:44 am #2098
In my current workflow, I post from Windows Live Writer, copy and paste images or link to images.
It would be great if you could include some short code that automatically set the pasted/linked image as Feature image.
Will I also be able to post a Feature from Windows Live Writer (via a shortcode or some other flag)?November 15, 2011 at 11:49 am #2101

Just checked out the Live writer (I had it installed but never knew it was there).
At first glance this appears useful for allowing our team to update the website.
I created a simple post, inserted an image in live writer. The post was uploaded/created fine.
\This is ideal as long as you do not need any of the theme options like featured images.
To get the image to appear as the featured image:
After opening the uploaded post…
1. I had to click the add image icon.
2. then gallery tag
3. then show image
4. then set as featured image.
5. delete the thumbnail in the post.
6. Add the custom field post_image_head = 1
To make it do what you suggest then there needs to be some script that runs after a post is submitted to perform the steps above.
Ideally I would want it to do the the same for events and pages.
I think the only way to work with Live writer is to only use it for creating simple posts or creating drafts and then use the on line editor to make changes before publishing.November 15, 2011 at 4:49 pm #2105
Back to your original query Kam,
You can control how many and which features show in theme options by assigning them to categories.
But there is no such thing as an expiry option. I guess someone somewhere might have written a plugin for do that with posts, but I’m just guessing – it isn’t a WordPress feature.
As for Live Write, II’ve not used it but you might try something like this:

I installed the live writer plug-in from the scottisafool.co.uk link.
There are two parts – a plug in for WordPress and one for Windows Live Writer.
I had to modify the WordPress Plug-in to get it to work as follows:
// Save the data
$id = wp_insert_attachment( $attachment, $upload[ ‘file’ ], $post_id );
wp_update_attachment_metadata( $id, wp_generate_attachment_metadata( $id, $upload[‘file’] ) );
I inserted this:
update_post_meta( $post_id, ‘_thumbnail_id’, $id );
This means that live writer prompts for and uploads the featured image.
I found a link to another Live Writer Plug in –
This means you can also insert theme custom fields from Live Writer, such as post-image-head =1 or subheading.November 16, 2011 at 5:33 am #2110
Astounding Support !!
What are the image sizes and type (png, jpg …) for:
1. Features’ featured image
2. Posts’ featured image
?November 16, 2011 at 8:07 am #2111
See the theme use guide http://themeloom.com/support/theme-docs/pure-user-guide
Because of the responsive nature of the theme your images must at least this size. The theme will create images exactly these sizes to use in appropriate places.November 26, 2011 at 5:54 am #2186
How do I ensure ‘Sticky’ posts stay on the home page ?November 26, 2011 at 8:59 pm #2188
This theme is not your typical blog theme. The front page is made entirely withn widgets. So sticky posts don’t really make sense.
the blog page template should keep sticky post at the top though.
