    I would like to use the Homepage #1 feature as a call to action on all pages…. I know that I need to modify each page template to includ something, but I am seeing to miss what is needed.

    Well there is a subheading option for each page.

    Set the a custom field called “subheading” to your call for action.

    See demo page that is using this feature: http://puretheme.themeloom.com/features/

    with some css this could be made more like that on the homepage:

    h2.subhead {
    background-color: #222;
    padding: 2em;
    color: white;
    text-shadow: none;
    font-size: 1.2em;

    }

    You can pop this css in the custom css field in theme options.

    And much better than editing code. If you do intend to edit code, make sure you do it in a child theme.
